Did you know about
2/3 of our household trash can be composted? Instead of throwing your biodegradable scraps into the garbage, start a compost pile or get a compost bin to allow the items to naturally decompose. I know our living situations vary so I'll try to give as many options as I can.
- Build a compost pile or bin in your backyard.
- Start a vermicomposter in your home.
- Sign up for a compost pickup program in your city.
- Check your city for local compost drop off locations.
- Adopt some bunnies! (just kidding....or am I?)
Composting can be very rewarding if you also have your own garden. All of the compost you've been babying for months will eventually turn into black gold giving your garden a boost of nutrients and minerals.
Is it biodegradable? Below is a list of items that are:
- Cardboard
- Clean paper
- Newspaper
- Hair
- Fingernail and toenail clippings (I know, eww)
- Hair
- Vacuum dust
- Coffee grounds
- Corncobs
- Eggshells
- Cotton Rags
- Nutshells
- Wool rags
- Dryer lint
- Pine needles
- flowers
- Plants
- Fruits and veggies
- Sawdust
- Woodchips
- Tea bags
- Grass and yard trimmings
- Hay
- Straw
- There are so many more items to list. Google the item if you are unsure. :)
